Customer Focus Seeks to understand customers: Seeks information to understand customers’ circumstances, problems, expectations and needs

Educates customers: Shares information with customers to build their understanding of issues and capabilities

Takes action to meet customer needs and concerns: Considers how actions or plans will affect customers; responds quickly to meet customer needs and resolve problems; avoids over commitments

Quality Orientation Ensures high quality output: Vigilantly watches over job processes, tasks and work procedures to ensure freedom from errors, omissions or defects

Takes action: Initiates action to correct quality problems or notifies others of quality issues as appropriate

Planning and Organising Prioritizes: Identifies more critical and less critical activities and assignments; adjusts priorities when appropriate Determines tasks and resources: Determines assignment requirements by breaking them down into tasks and identifying types of equipment, materials and people needed Schedules: Allocates appropriate amounts of time for completing own and others’ work; avoids scheduling conflicts; develops timelines and milestones
Follow Up Communicates time frames: Builds due dates into assignments and task delegations; effectively communicates milestones and expected results

Gathers appropriate information: Asks questions to obtain relevant information; gets feedback from those directly involved

Collaboration Volunteers assistance: Offers to help others achieve goals Active participation in departmental meetings

Good working relationships with Engineering members

Identifies critical and non-critical issues, relevant and irrelevant ideas and concepts
Judgement Assesses risks associated with proposals

Reviews all information to identify critical issues and applies these to decisions

Selects the best option based on analysis of all the variables

Innovation Challenges paradigms: Identifies assumptions in the way problems or situations are defined or presented; sees alternative ways to look at or define problems; is not constrained by the thoughts or approaches of others Thinks expansively: Combines ideas in unique ways or makes connections between disparate ideas; explores different lines of thought; views situations from multiple perspectives; brainstorms multiple approaches/solutions Evaluates multiple solutions: Examines numerous potential solutions and evaluates each before accepting any in order to solve problems
Problem Solving Identifies the source of problems and implements procedures to avoid them in future

Selects the best option based on analysis of all the variables
