The Mine Optimization Specialist will use advanced knowledge and expertise to provide guidance and leadership in mine planning and operations. This individual will oversee the technical and operational capabilities of the function as well as site and project resources. This person will provide expert advice on issues related to current and emerging practices, technologies and methodologies. This person will help achieve team goals by leading the development and implementation of systems and processes through project teams.

This is a complex global role covering open pit operations at our client’s sites. The individual selected for this role will provide expertise and support to operations and projects in the implementation of the mining plan and contribute to the continuous improvement of mining methods.

Details of the role

  • Prepare and review mining plans;
  • Use advanced knowledge to assist operations in the technical and economic analysis of the company’s operations;
  • Assist operations in the development of their mining plan;
  • Evaluate the most appropriate mining methods to identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Find solutions to technical challenges that arise in certain projects;
  • Suggest new approaches;
  • Develop mining plans;
  • Master planning and design software;
  • Mentor and advise less experienced employees;
  • Provide expertise and support to operations;
  • Assist operations when technical problems arise;
  • Prepares written reports and documents related to technical and operational issues and various programs and systems in place or to be implemented;
  • Conduct research to support decision making and improve processes, technologies and methodologies;
  • Conduct internal audits in technical and operational areas;
  • Prepare and follow up on reports to ensure compliance with company and industry requirements;
  • Contribute to the monitoring of engineering and operational standards and technology development;
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of work processes;
  • Keep abreast of trends in mine design and integrate this information into projects and work methods;
  • Propose new approaches to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards;
  • Delegate tasks to less experienced employees, mentor them and act in an advisory capacity in complex situations;
  • Continually seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in open pit mining required;
  • University degree in mining engineering or equivalent;
  • Member of a recognized professional association;
  • Qualified person under NI 43-101;
  • 15 years of relevant work experience on mine sites;
  • Advanced experience in mine planning;
  • Experience in open pit mining required;
  • Proficiency in Minesite or Deswik software;
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French);
  • Good knowledge of mine planning and engineering;
  • Good knowledge of health, safety and environment;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external resources and to work with all levels of the organization;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage a high level of confidentiality;
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work tasks;
  • Ability to have pleasant and courteous interactions.;
  • Open to frequent travel to sites equal to approximately 25-30% of time.
