Our client, a multi-trade service provider that safely delivers high quality construction, facilities management, and technical solutions is looking for a Health, Safety and Environment Senior Advisor. Reporting to the Management, the HSE Senior Advisor will evaluate, monitor health and safety hazards and control risks in the workplace. The candidat will be responsible to oversee an assigned workplace(s) to ensure compliance with company, client, and government policies, procedures, acts and regulations.  The HSE Advisor will ensure proper application and use of the company Safety Management System.  This position will demonstrate leadership in order to drive safety as a core value.

Duties & Responsibilities :
  • Provide HS&E leadership, guidance, and support to assigned workplace(s);
  • Assist and support their Provincial HSE Manager in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures, in accordance with the company and regulatory requirements;
  • Conduct inspections (as required) of job sites, facilities, and equipment for compliance with general and specific safety standards; follow-up on any non-compliance issues and take appropriate action to remedy;
  • Conduct incident investigations, audits of subcontractor safety management systems, loss control programs, and non-compliance issues, prepare reports and make recommendations for changes as necessary;
  • Support the implementation of the Certificate of Recognition Program (COR), for the Region;
  • Oversee and participate as required in incident investigation and reviews;
  • Support as required modified duty programs;
  • Ensure emergency response plans are in place and aligned with local regulatory, regional, divisional and corporate requirements;
  • Prepare and distribute HSE monthly statistics;
  • Provide the project manager and site supervision with the services and technical advice needed for the proper administration of the HSE program;
  • Maintain project incident reporting and data collection system, coordinate investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed;
  • Effective implementation of the hazard/risk assessment process to ensure the correct level of control is being applied to the risk factors;
  • Participate in the pre job planning and job hazard analysis (JHA) on all new or potentially hazardous work;
  • Coordinate continuing HSE education, programs and courses for appropriate personnel; this includes training to support the educational matrix;
  • Post and maintain HSE bulletins, posters, rules and regulations;
  • Ensure the company orientations and awareness training are conducted for all staff/workers;
  • Act as liaison between project-line management and the HSE department;
  • Participate in regional planning as required;
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding health, safety and environment;
  • Conduct and or support the annual Safety Management System, Audit.

Education and Skill Requirements : 
  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in a discipline such as Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studies would be preferred;
  • 10 years of related work experience within the construction industry;
  • CSO or NCSO, Construction Safety Officer/National Construction Safety Officer would be considered an asset;
  • Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) would be considered an asset;
  • Microsoft Office, computer literacy (word, excel, power point);
  • Ability to facilitate programs and present to groups;
  • Working knowledge of Provincial, and Local safety and environmental regulations and programs;
  • Availability to travel.
